how to create iphone 3G new email folders for POP IMAP. If you have an IMAP account on iphone 3G, you can create new folders (i.e., more saved mail folders) on the mail client on your pc computer or mac. These new folders are actually on the server and should show up on your iphone 3G. you can go to the advanced settings for the IMAP accounts and tell the iphone 3G to use the folders on the server, tell your laptop computer mail client to use the folders on the servers, and sync the account settings from your computer. You should see the folders that you have already set up on the server. If the folders don’t appear on the iphone, you might want to delete and recreate the accounts on the iphone. I have created several sub-folders for both my AOL and MobileMe IMAP accounts that show up on my iphone 3G.

For yahoo email account, you can just log in to your Yahoo mail via the web browser and create folders from there. After that, the new email folders will appear on the iPhone. For gmail acount, you can also set it up as IMAP. you can log into your gMail account via your browser, then go to settings >go to labels, then simply type in your subfolder as below:

INBOX/Test Folder/Test Sub Folder

Remember that this works like a tree diagram - levels, and sub levels etc. then Click create, Save changes.

after a while, you can check your iPhone 3G and will find the new folders & sub folders on your iphone 3G( you should have set up to use IMAP)

  1. This doesn’t work for POP accounts, only IMAP accounts. Just in case, I tried deleting and recreating one of my POP accounts and it doesn’t pick up anything but the “Inbox” folder.

  2. Why is it that iPod touch and iPhone do not allow you to create mail folders? Also can we get credit for an app that we cannot use? P
