How to turn off iphone 3G EDGE network

How to turn off iphone 3g EDGE network? on iphone,I went to Settings>General>Network>EDGE> and changed the name of the top line, Which is supposed to mean I cant connect to anythign because of an incorrect network name. Still the edge network symbol pops up when I am not in wifi, then I reboot to see the problem a few times but it still stays up. What are some ways to turn off the iphone edge network?

you can turn off Iphone EDGE network by reseting to factory setting or simply correct the proer network name.
