iphone bluetooth bmw bluetooth pairing reset
iphone bluetooth bmw bluetooth pairing reset? iPhone Bluetooth and BMW needs to to repaired everytime I drive my bmw car. When each time I pair iphone bluetooth and bmw bluetooth, they will works fine. but when i used nokia phone , both bluetooth work fine without repairing .
Otherwise the Phone is recognized by the car and incoming calls show up both on the car display and on my phone, but the bluetooth connection gets dropped soon and I can talk to the caller just with the phone.
My friends do not experience the same thing at all with his bmwX3 - his iphone bluetooth and bmw bluetooth connects like clockwork and stays connected. are you switching wifi off on the iphone? do you know what generation the bluetooth module is in your bmw? i think that only the more recent modules are defined to be compatible with the iphone (6th generation and above). you can ask bmw dealer, there are instructions about compatible bluetooth. I have found some friends have the same problems iphone bluetooth and bmw bluetooth pairing reset when drive each time.
sometimes when using phone bluetooth with several different bluetooth devices at the same time . you should choose one to locked in the “trusted” mode with phone. other bluetooth devices should be pairing every time.

Same problem with me…
Me three, 530 D 2007
Hi, I’m in the UK and bought an iPhone yesterday. I have an 07 3 Series Coupe (320) with Bluetooth.
I paired the phone with the car today and it worked flawlessly first time. I only had three entries in iPhone contacts so I went back and added to them until I had about 30.
I got back into the car and everything worked perfectly again. The entire iPhone book transferred over first time.
I had a problem with the 1 Series I had before this car and the solution may help you, if you haven’t already tried it.
All of a sudden, the car started dropping the pairing a few seconds after it had detected the Blackberry I had at the time. I worked backwards through the new contacts I’d put on the phone and found that there was a symbol in one of the “Notes” field of an entry that the car obviously didn’t like.
As soon as I deleted that entry, the pairing held up. Since then, I’ve heard similar stories from other BMW/Bluetooth users so it might be worth having a good look through your contacts and deleting some of the details to see if that works.
Process of elimination etc.
Good luck,
Mark
I have the same issue. My iPhone connects effortlessly to my 523 BMW but as soon as I try to make or receive a call, it drops the bluetooth connection. I have 300 names in my address book. I just could not go through them all and do this. Any idea what the symbol was. I don’t mean to be cynical, but are you sure this was the cause.
Same problem here with an 04 X3. Would love to find the solution!
Same issue with me. I have a 55 330d. Works first time, but when i go back and start the car later/next day, won’t work. I need to delete from the cars bluetooth, and delete on the iphone, and then re-connect. Help!
same issue with 2007 E92
Same problem on my wife’s X3
Exactly te same problem with my 05 530d…
The strange thing is that I read a lot of reviews from people driving a E60 or E92 without these problems…
exactly and I want to know why. It’s driving me crazy
unlike my previous phone, i have put the code first on the car and then on the iphone. Is it the same procedure in your car?
Yes, I had to put the code first in my car.
How about the menu on the Iphone which appears after dailing a number, its says something like:
- Speaker Phone
- Dismiss Call
- Speaker “Bluetooth Car Phone”
Could this be the reason why some people can pair and other can’t…?
I have a 2005 X3 and the iphone has generally worked very well for 4 months. The only reason that I’m on this site is that yesterday, for the first time, the radio locked in the PHONE position. Disconnecting the pairing, turning off and removing the phone did not resolve the problem. I called my local service rep and he showed my how to reset the telcom manager for the bluetooth. in the x3 it’s in the back underneath the left cargo hold. Essentially, you simply pull out the multipin and put it back in.
I reconnected my pairing and it works fine since. However - on my system i’ve never been able to use the directory, because the iphone doesn’t publish a HOT LIST (ala Blackberry) of your, say, 25 latest contacts. I do miss that from my blackberry, but that’s the only thing.
good luck. keep trying. BMW will not support any phone that isn’t on their very conservative list.
Scott Compton - can you give a little more of the details on the BMW X3 bluetooth reset - I found the small black box you described that I’m assuming is the telcom manager (it’s near the battery in the “trunk” right? (you say the left side of the car - do you mean passenger side?)
I tried your method with no success: I turned the car off, unplugged the multipin connector, and then plugged it back in. My iphone (which had previously recognized and paired successfully with my car) still is not able to “see” the car when turned on?
Very frustrating.
Turn off your WLAN and the problems should disappear
Exactly the same issue for me with my shiny 16 GB 1.1.3 iPhone I got yesterday. Works first time it is paired, after that it syncs ok, contacts display fine. Choose a contact and call and the bluetooth drops, call only continues in phone.
Wifi off made not a jot of difference.
04 530d…
same problem with my 3 series e93 (2007) - anyone found a solution? switching off wlan did not help!! thnx
i’m driving E60 BMW 5-serie of 2006, and same problem as described.
Isn’t there anyone who can resolve this problem, or are we going to stay complaining?
According to one BMW dealership, 300 quid new physical bit required to make it work. Another said a software update when in for next service at extra 50 quid *should* do it.
Don’t really trust either of them!
If it’s a Apple 1.1.3 issue, then I suspect until the next update we’re out of luck.
Does anyone know how to Re-set the BMW 328 xi USB interface ? I added some new songs to my iPod Nano and now as i plug it into the USB interface it constantly says error. It worked flawlessly for months before that. Help ! I need to know how to reset or reboot the USB inteface in my 328. Or if you have another suggestion.
thanks.
1.1.4 is OUT. Can PLEASE anybody check whether the problem is solved (as much as I heard Apple fixed some Bluetooth issues..not sure whether this includes OUR problem)… i got an unlocked iphone and dont wanna update to 1.1.4 as long as i’m not sure that everything works fine… thanks
Nope 1.1.4 did not fix the BMW + Iphone needs to be repaired every time.
Sorry
I am taking my 1 Series BMW into the dealership on Monday; I want a firmware update for the bluetooth control box in my car; will let you know how it goes…
The guy in the garage… twat!
“We can plug you car in and update the firmware; but the software will update all of the firmware for evey module in the car, we cannot make it only update the bluetooth module. We have no way of telling how long this might take, I have seen it take over 8 hours before; We will of course have to put the car up on a ramp and bill you £110 an hour + VAT; but of course there is no guarantee it will fix the problem and I have no way of telling you how long it might take”
Why even offer the service in the first place !!!!!!
that sucks, i’m sorry for ya.
why can’t BMW just behave like a professional and give this update for free? even microsoft offers free updates
the iphone perfectly works in audi, mercedes and with a tomtom gps. but BMW? NOPE; it doesNT
can’t believe it
E92 325i
I had a software upgrade (95€ all-in), and now my iphone works perfectly. No problems at all.
Before the upgrade i had to repair everytime.
Same upgrade on Z4, and it works also very good.
Do you know what was the car’s firmware version prior to the upgrade? What is the new one? That way we can be sure before paying.
Thank you!!
Just to give you a heads up, the iPhone has very limited bluetooth capabilities. For some reason Appale have only chosen to sign up to about 2 profiles of the bluetooth firmware versions when in actual fact there are about 14 that your average everyday mobile comes with. Hopefully Apple will add more profiles in future firmware releases. One important profile that causes your above problems of having to reconnect every time you say enter a car is the profile of remembering pairings, this is why, if you switch of your bluetooth on the iPhone it forgets everything of what it was paired with. Sorry to hear garages are not being too friendly as well.
My BMW E90 2005 had problems with my simlocked Iphone 1.1.4
Last week, the garage updated the car’s Bluetooth software, everything works fine now!
I just had my BMW525D bluetooth updated. The iPone 1.1.4 version does not work with this update. Garage tells me I have to DOWNgrade to version 1.1.2 on the iphone ….
I’ve an E60 53 Reg 530D. Gutted, just took delivery of unlocked 1.1.4 iphone yesterday. It paired quickly enough and contacts came over, but when making a call sound only comes from the handset and not through the car! Would be good to hear from the individuals that have gotten the bluetooth software upgrade and what version they went from and then successfully to.
Just bought a 2004 BMW X5 that comes with full bluetooth and BMW assist installed.
I connected my Blackberry and everything works great, phone book transfer very easy. When receiving calls the name and number of the callers are displayed on the nav screen and in the instrument panel. My problem is with my iphone. After connecting the iphone thru the bluetooth as I did with the blackberry, the phone book transfer normally. Calls are clear and connection does not drop as some others mention in this forum and many other forums.
My issue is that the caller info does not come up when I receive calls. The phone will ring and I can answer it by using the stairing wheel button or the button on the nav panel, however, there is no indication of the call on either the nav screen nor the instrument panel.
Any suggestion on how to get the caller info with the Iphone?
I already tried deleting the bluetooth connection and reconnect. I also disable wifi and 3gs with no luck.
I had the same problem, iphone 3G with 3.1.2 connected to a 2008 X5. Worked fine for a few months, then wouldn’t pair automatically to the phone - had to repair every time I started the car. This probably started after I added some new contacts to the phone, but I’m not really 100% sure on that. Tried deleting the phone from the BMW (”forget this phone”) and repairing - this did not work - then deleting the car from the phone’s bluetooth menu (”forget this device”) - which also did not work. I finally fixed it by doing a soft reset on the iphone (just power down the phone and restart). Working fine now. Not sure why this should work, but it is easier than resetting the car.
I am having similar problems with my iphone 3g and my X5 (2005), the phone pairs automatically but then the connection switches itself on and off every 10 - 15 seconds. Apple said it was because they were not compatible but if that was the case the iphone would not have paired in at all. All Apple suggested was restoring my phone and trying again!
Has anyone had the same problem and found any sort of solution?
Good morning
I have tested the pairing of my HTC Touch Pro with a 320d With Bluetooth and the GPS navigation system. It worked all right but the contacts in the car came sorted by Last Name and not by first Name as I have in my Outlook and on my phone.
Is it possible to have them order by First Name ? How ?
Thank you in advance
Best regards

Great! all of us consent with something! What are your own thoughts on the M? BMW whored out M exactly like Mercedes did with AMG. What ever took place to creating autos fast that were worth a darn? What person prefers a 4500lb pig with 500 h . p .?
How to reset a bluetooth module in bmw x5 E53 when pin code was wrong written? Can not pair any phone. It shows only searching… and then Atcivate the phone.
My iphone was on repairs as its wifi thing was not working. The bluetooth was working fine. Now that I have my iphone back, I tried to pair it again with my bmw. Before going for repairs, both of them paired well together. But now my bmw says: searching for paired devices, and doesn’t find my iphone. Can someone help?
BMW want a kick up the a***. Only a few old phones nobody wants to be seen with work on their mega expensive bluetooth system. In my experience BMW just couldn’t care less. They are not the only prestige manufacture to behave in this way. Perhaps if next time we all bought a Ford for three years they would begin to care. it’s not only phone pairing, some of these expensive cars have other quality issues, especially poor interior quality materials.
IPHONE BMW BLUETOOTH PAIRING PROBLEM SOLVED !
I have a BMW 545 Sport (05 registration) which I bought on Saturday and an Iphone 3gS with the latest software (3.1.3) andd had the same problem (initial connection fine, subsequent times when I got into the car the connection would drop approximately every 30 seconds to 1 minute)
I discussed this with BMW who advised me that the car was too old to work with an Iphone and I should spend about £600 upgrading the bluetooth in the car.
Having read the above threads I decided to try looking at contacts. When I switched off contact synchronisation on the Iphone (Settings/General/Bluetooth, click on BMW and change sync contacts to off) the phone stayed connected and I could make calls reliably. This is a sensible first diagnostic step to prove the problem is contact related.
I then cleaned up my contact list (Down from about 400 entries to 318) and it now works perfectly. I then spoke to someone else at the BMW dealership who said that he would have advised this - the capacity of the bluetooth unit gets used up because contacts are synchronised (and so are texts so apparently worth deleting them also)
I hope this is helpful.
Good Luck !
John Bell
Thanks John Bell . Your advice was invaluable. My iPhone was pairing fine with the I drive in my 05 530i and then just became unpaired. I did loads of hard and soft resets and resetting of settings and was on the brink of deleting everything until I did what you recommended -deleted texts and rationalised the contact list and presto it paired again. A million thanks again!
