iphone cannot record Greeting to Visual Voicemail
I’m now trying to record a new greeting to voicemail and after recording I cannot hear the greeting on the phone or when calling my number to hear it.
Also seems like after some time of leaving it alone when I try to record again, iPhone just restarts suddenly.
I tried to access voicemail today and it gave me the “you need to create a passcode and greeting” screen like it does the first time you use it. I re-created my passcode, and tried to create a greeting. When I tried to stop the recording, the phone would restart. I did a hard reset of the phone, and then tried it. This time, it didn’t crash, but when I played back the greeting, there was no sound. Anyboady having this issue?
This is what you should do if you cannot record custom greetings from iPhone:
1- Set your iPhoe grretings to custom greetings and record anything (even if it is blank).
2- Save the greetings
3- Call your iPhone from a land line or any other phone and press ignore when your iPhone rings or call when your iPhone is turned off
4- When it is playing the greetings (the blank one you recorded in step one) press * (make sure you press this before beep sound)
5- You can now change your settings and voicemail greetings. Record and change your greetings from here and it will be played on your iPhone now

you have got to be kidding me. For people with this problem, there is no way this would work. AND yes, I tried it just to make sure.
I am having this same exact problem. Everything worked fine before the 1.1.4 upgrade. Of course, it’s the “add a feature, break a feature” that seems ot permeate the computer industry… Anyway, Apple says it’s AT&T’s fault and AT&T says it’s Apple’s fault. The fix I got was this:
1. SETTINGS -> GENERAL -> RESET -> RESET ALL SETTINGS
2. AIRPLANE MODE for 30 seconds
3. SETTINGS -> SAFARI -> DELETE COOKIES, CASH, HISTORY
4. Reset by holding HOME & SLEEP/WAKE buttons at the same time until the Apple appears (keep holding even if the “slide” request comes up).
When you try recording a new message, a message will come up and say that the password is incorrect. Enter your cell phone number WITHOUT the area code and hit ok. Mine worked from there, hope this helps…
I tried it and it worked. Phillip, you must not understand the instructions because I followed them and it worked fine. Much simpeler than the other instructions.
This worked for me to! I spent 2 hrs with AT&T trying to fix it, got a new sim card, nothing worked until I followed the instructions to call it from a lan line and it worked! Thanks!
