If it did not have one you would not be abel to hear your ringtones when some one is calling you.Its like with any phone these days that double as a MP3 player, they all have a external speaker.Anything with a headphone jack can be connected to external speakers. You may need a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter, but it can be done.

The one that dose not have an External speaker is the iTouch.
