how to turn iphone function off and not into airport mode? Prior to the iphone I just to own a samsung blackjack which had the option of turning off the phone and still being able to use it as a PDA. So my question is, other than airport mode which disables the bluetooth and Wi-Fi as well, is there a way to just disable to phone function to conserve battery life when using as an ipod or perhaps browsing using Wi-fi?

You can turn it to airport mode in settings by sliding it to on. Then turn wifi off and also go to general under settings and turn off blutooth. This should disable all Phone related functions.
